LASCIATEMI MORIRE: A Stairwell Cantata by opera singer and artist Dianna Lucia Dragonetti this Friday, July 7 at 7:00pm.
For this intimate stairwell concert, Dragonetti will perform two songs a capella from the 1608 opera L'Arianna by Claudio Monteverdi. One of the earliest operas in history, L'Arianna is based on the Greek legend of Ariadne, who is deserted by her lover, the hero Theseus, on the island of Naxos, and subsequently elevated to bride of the god Bacchus.
All of the music has been lost except for the eight part recitative "Arianna's Lament" from which Dragonetti draws these cantos.
