SARA’S is pleased to present The Bridge of Sighs!, a dual presentation of new work by Tashi Fay and Julien Parant-Marquis. These two early-career artists create subliminal scenes brimming with modern horror vacui. Fay’s Freudian vignettes are sharp and sticky, while Parant Marquis’ “chaos landscapes” vibrate between viscous interiority and the grand Cosmological. The works on view are exaggerated and delicate. Referencing a comedic Victorian-era poem on the preoccupation with melancholy, The Bridge of Sighs! reflects the enduring sense of solemnity attached to our own era—increasingly thick with violence—and the nihilism, humor and subliminal wandering that has historically soothed the psychic trauma of troubled times.
Julien Parant-Marquis (b. Canada, 1996) is a Montréal based artist working predominantly in painting, drawing, and sculpture. Parant-Marquis’ practice also visits experimental pho- tography. He has exhibited work in group shows in Montréal, Vancouver and Upstate New York, at venues including: Tap Artspace, Montréal; Baba Yaga, Hudson, NY; After- noon Projects, Vancouver; Espace Maurice, Montréal; Gama Gallery, Mexico City.
Tashi Fay (b. Los Angeles) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Com- bining painting, collage and sculpture, Fay constructs scenes meant to plunge the viewer into bizarre and dreamlike narratives. Recent exhibitions include I Think I’m in Trouble, SARA’S, New York (2024), My Other Family, The Horse Hospital, London (2023) and thee belly walls, 15 Orient (2019).
